Speak the wagger! ...
Just dropping a line to update you on Garfield (now named
Speak) like we promised! (We've also attached a picture so you can see how well
he's settled in!) We've renamed him Speak. Speak is the Tick's (a comic book
character) dog who bears a real close resemblance to our little man.
It's taken him a while to get warmed up to us, but his bubbly outgoing personality
has really started to shine through! Even though he has a bobbed tail, he wags
his butt to compensate when he gets excited, which is a lot! We've started him
on clicker training to learn sit, stay, etc and he'll be going to obedience
classes soon. He's not housetrained yet, but we're crate training him right
now and giving him lots of praise when he does his duty! He's a great little
dog overall, everyone who meets him loves him, which makes us proud!
We'd also like to just thank everyone at Beagles & Buddies for taking time
out to help so many dogs that need homes. We think that eventually (aftero ur
little guy is housetrained) that we'd like to get him a buddy since he's so
good with other dogs. (When we go for walks he always looks back longingly at
the dogs we pass, we think he wants a friend.) We hope to return to Beagles
& Buddies to find him a friend. Until then, thanks a bunch and keep up the
good work, Speak says hi!

Dasher
is working on her third day with us now. She's the greatest! She loves long
walks and also lounging by the fireplace snuggled in a blanket. She gets along
great with our neighbor's puppy and is so tolerant of the puppy's rambunctiousness.
We
brought her by the vet to check her hernia, as you recommended. The vet felt
that the hernia was not urgent, but he recommended that he do some follow-up
surgery on it. We'll bring her up there in two weeks or so for the surgery.
We want to give her some time to settle in, plus I need to wait for one of my
weekdays off to get her there.
The only problem we have so far is that she gets very nervous when left alone.
We live in a condo complex, and when we're gone she reacts to every noise in
the complex with a fit of barking, yipping, whining, and scratching on the door
that can last up to 20 minutes. We play classical music and set up a white noise
generator by the door to mask some of the outdoor sounds. That seems to help
a little. We hope that she'll quiet down some as she understands our work routine
and gets more used to being alone for part of the day.
Adopting from Beagles and Buddies was such a pleasure. Everyone there (dogs
and people alike) were great. Thank you so much! We'll send you another update,
and hopefully some pictures, in a couple weeks or so.-Bruce & Michele [12.18.01]
Junior and Daisy lounging like there's no tomorrow...
We
have truly been blessed to find these two adorable siblings. In just the
short time that we have had them they have filled an empty spot left by
the passing earlier this year of our two dogs who both died from different
forms of cancer.
They are so full of energy and eager to please. After taking them to your
vet for their rabies shots we brought them back to Garden Grove to our
vet who we have had for several years. He thought they were the greatest
and said he has never met a beagle he didn't like. He gave them both a
clean bill of health.
We have started taking them for walks and have them enrolled in doggy
school starting next week. I'm attaching another photo. Thanks so much
for being there to rescue these wonderful animals.
