Shylo! ...

Hi Beagles and Buddies!!

We recently adopted Tami and are overjoyed. She knows how to sit, sit pretty, come and shake. We're still working on down and heel. She gets along GREAT with our other two dogs and everyone in our family. Tami and Shadoe (our other dog) run through the house chasing each other and jumping over anything in their way (including people!!) My friend and I laid down in front of them and Tami flew over us easily! We think Beagles and Buddies is the best place to adopt a beagle. We stayed for four hours and brought our dog Shadoe to help us pick a beagle to be his playmate. It was so much fun! Thank you Connie and all the other shelter volunteers for being so helpful. And Connie for accepting our application and letting us have one of your favorite beagles. We'll send pictures soon and bring Tami back to come visit.
Thanks Beagles and Buddies,
Megan, Glenda, Jim and Tami Snell

"To all my friends at Beagles and Buddies,

My name is Shylo, remember me? I was recently adopted by Jan and Craig Ryan. I am very happy at my new home in Costa Mesa. I miss all of my buddies there but I am having a great time now. All I can say is "America, what a country." Two weeks ago I was at BeaglesAndBuddies hoping for someone to adopt me. Now I am living the life of luxury. I sent you some pictures of me on my Grandmothers yacht called Black Jack at Catalina Island. Good luck to all of you at Beagles and Buddies. Love,Shylo" 08-29-01

How do new dogs and babies get along?

The baby and the dog should never be left alone together.

However, Bassets are the least likely to be dangerous. There are other breeds such as the Labrador, the Golden Retriever, and the Collie that are unlikely to snap at children.

Adopting an older dog that has had experience with children is much better than adopting a puppy or a young dog without experience.

With puppies, teething is part of growing up - and sometimes they don't know the strength of their own jaws. Rather than riskng it, go with an older dog. That way, both parties can have fun & respect without getting into any trouble!!
