Update on Luanne

Hi from San Diego,

We adopted Luanne, a Treeing Walker Coonhound, on Saturday, February 22nd. After a rather quiet & uneventful drive home, we arrived to a flurry of activity. Luanne was greeted with hugs by grandma & barks by her new sister, Hershey, but quickly made herself at home on grandma's bed.

Her first week was very eventful. Since our toddler son was having trouble with the "Lu" in Luanne, we renamed her Annabelle. And throughout our day, we constantly hear him laughing & calling Annabelle. She had her first visit to the vet for shots, spaying & microchip implanting. But even with all the new changes, nothing was able to curb her excitement or her continued pursuit of FUN.

She is such a joy & a wonderful addition to our family!

How do new dogs and babies get along?

The baby and the dog should never be left alone together.

However, Bassets are the least likely to be dangerous. There are other breeds such as the Labrador, the Golden Retriever, and the Collie that are unlikely to snap at children.

Adopting an older dog that has had experience with children is much better than adopting a puppy or a young dog without experience.

With puppies, teething is part of growing up - and sometimes they don't know the strength of their own jaws. Rather than riskng it, go with an older dog. That way, both parties can have fun & respect without getting into any trouble!!
