Spots or Shadow

Hi! My son, Bagel and I adopted "Spots" last Sunday and we are very busy "puppy loving". It only took one day for Bagel to adjust... Spots follows him everywhere so "Spots" is now SHADOW. Shadow and Bagel play and wrestle and are fast becoming good friends. Shadow takes bones and toys away from Bagel who patiently waits for him grow tired of the toy so he can have a turn. Shadows favorite toy is a soft squeaky frog that my son picked out on our way home at 'Pets Smart'. He enjoys making the sqeaky noise but doesn't chew it to pieces like Bagel did with similar toys. It's interesting that Bagel does not touch the frog.. it's like he knows it belongs to Shadow. Bagel often comes to me for reassurance that he is loved and of course there are hugs and kisses enough for two. I have never had two dogs before and I am loving it! I think Shadow is a wonderful addition to our family! See for yourself! Thank you! We love him!

How do new dogs and babies get along?

The baby and the dog should never be left alone together.

However, Bassets are the least likely to be dangerous. There are other breeds such as the Labrador, the Golden Retriever, and the Collie that are unlikely to snap at children.

Adopting an older dog that has had experience with children is much better than adopting a puppy or a young dog without experience.

With puppies, teething is part of growing up - and sometimes they don't know the strength of their own jaws. Rather than riskng it, go with an older dog. That way, both parties can have fun & respect without getting into any trouble!!
